Some researchers have created plants that glow in the dark like fireflies, modifying their DNA. One day these plants will light up our streets.
Bioluminescent plants hark back to the movie Avatar and the fantasy planet of Pandora, but that nature is now reality. In fact, a group of scientists created the first plant that glows in the dark producing light by itself, without the addition of chemicals or the need to absorb UV rays.
The result was obtained through bioengineering and genetic modification of the plant, with the use of the genetic kit of some luminescent bacteria. This makes imagining a future with many luminescent car plants that could give light to our roads and at the same time make the air cleaner.
